A heartwarming collaborative mosaic artwork between local primary school children, the learning team and myself has finally been installed in Clerkenwell's beautiful and historic St John's Gate Ambulance Cloisters and Garden.
30 children in Year 5 created individual mosaics featuring motifs they had previously drawn which reflected the garden's themes. The children learned about the rich history of St John's Gate, fostering a deeper appreciation for their local heritage and the natural world. These included inspiration from the varied medicinal plant species (St John's Wort flower), images and icons from the Museum (including Bertie the badger) as well as flora and fauna that inhabit the gardens.
Finally the mosaics were installed on the wall in a butterfuly shape which now brings vibrant colour and warmth to the developing garden and teaching space.
